The project is co-financed by the European Commission under its SWITCH ASIA programme and the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH , the lead implementing agency, works on behalf of the BMZ. The Indian partners are the Manufacturers‘ Association for Information Technology (MAIT) and Toxics Link while the European partner is Adelphi Research gGmbH (Germany).

Adelphi Research

Adelphi Research is an internationally operating consultancy and has extensive experience and competence in the area of technology transfer and integrated environmental protection. Adelphi has worked in India and other South Asian countries on cleaner production measures and environmental management offering solutions in sustainability in various areas and for various key players ranging from industries, to governmental agencies, NGOs and research institutes. Numerous projects are focussing on cleaner production, waste management and environmental issues via capacity building and technical assistance measures. Adelphi promotes eco-efficiency, innovation, corporate social responsibility and focus on sustainability management systems for the corporate sector and provides international expertise.

MAIT

Manufacturers’ Association for IT is a not-for-profit industry society representing the
hardware electronics industry in India. It’s charter is to develop a globally competitive,
standards driven, ethically clean Indian ICTe eco-system. It has been working with the Policy
makers in Government of India to develop globally harmonised regulations for enabling ICTe
industry/manufacturing in India.

As a GIZ core partner, MAIT has been working to cultivate informal e-waste sector operators
and groom them into formal associations. It’s work has enabled the first such organisations
to get COE/COO from the Government in Bangalore city. It is also working on enablement of
content/research/ ground level activations in Pune, Delhi and Kolkatta with GIZ.

MAIT has contributed significantly to the MOEF WEEE regulation draft and it’s
representation was harmonised with the JITA, USAID, CII, ToxicLinks, GreenPeace, GIZ/EU,
ERA and MAIT members. It has published a number of whitepapers and operating
documents in this area including ‘WEEE Care!’ And ‘WEEE Create!’.

MAIT is working closely with GIZ in creating the implementation guidelines for the
regulation when it is announced.

Toxics Link

Toxics Link is a leading non-governmental organization on issues of environmental waste, and toxic related health issues. Toxics Link has expertise of working on several environmental issues including management of municipal, hazardous and medical waste. It expertise ranges across policy advocacy, networking, community outreach and education, policy analysis, research, training and program development. Toxics Link is based in Delhi, with nodal offices in Chennai and Kolkata and also works in several parts of India through its networks. The organization has done some pioneering and consistent work on issues related to E waste management in the country and the region. It has been involved in various research and advocacy work on E waste.
